The Path to Microsoft Certified Master: SQL Server 2008

Joe Sack, Microsoft

Joe will be giving an in-depth talk on the SQL MCM Certification program. He'll discuss how the SQL MCM Certification program format use to look and how it looks today. He'll also describe the benefits of a SQL MCM Certification and how to prepare for it.

Joe Sack works for Microsoft as a SQL Server Dedicated Support Engineer in the Premier Field Engineering team and is also the acting Program Manager for the Microsoft Certified Master SQL Server program. Since 1997, he has been developing and supporting SQL Server environments for clients in financial services, IT consulting, manufacturing, retail and the real estate industry. He is the author of SQL Server 2008 Transact-SQL Recipes, SQL Server 2005 T–SQL Recipes and SQL Server 2000 Fast Answers for DBAs and Developers.

Jacquie Garberg, Benchmark Learning

Do you know where you are heading with your career?  Are you on the journey to somewhere or just getting by?  Does your organization see the value you bring to the table?  What do companies look for in a SQL DBA professional? Jacquie will focus on career topics, with an interactive discussion.  She will also provide the latest tips and tricks to help you “stay on track” so that your career doesn’t get derailed.

Jacquie Garberg joined Benchmark Learning in August 2007 as a Career Development Manager.  Jacquie’s passions include career coaching, mentoring and skill development. Additionally, Jacquie has a background in Career Counseling and Human Resources. Jacquie graduated from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and maintains a GCDF certification.  She is currently an active member with MN Career Development Association (MCDA), MN High Tech Association (MHTA) and serves on the iSeek Advisory Committee and IT Workforce Collaborative.  Jacquie also advocates for individuals who have Autism as a member of the Autism Society and other related organizations.

Jason Strate, Digineer

For those willing to stay a little later than our usual closing time, Jason Strate will tell us what the MVP award is, what’s involved in becoming an MVP, and what it the benefits are for the MVP program.

Jason Strate, SQL Server MVP, is a DBA with over twelve years of experience. His experience includes delivering both OLTP and OLAP solutions as well as assessment and implementation of SQL Server environments for best practices, performance, and HADR solutions. He is a SQL Server MCITP and participated in the development of Microsoft Certification exams for SQL Server 2008. Jason has presented at the SSWUG Virtual Conferences, TechFuse, SQL Saturday events, and at PASSMN user group meetings.
